WHO IS THE SYSTEMS THINKING COMMUNITY?
The systems thinking community is a unique
group of people and organizations. It's the:
- individuals
who put the tools and principles of systems thinking into
practice every day in their workplaces, neighborhoods, and
families;
- organizational
development professionals and consultants who continually
use and develop these tools and principles in their work
with organizations
- researchers
who constantly refine and deepen our understanding of systemic
behavior;
- software
firms that create the tools that make systems thinking simulations
and "microworld" practice fields possible; and
- teachers
and administrators from elementary up through graduate-school
levels who are re-imagining education and introducing
new generations of students to the field.
The
community is also international—as word of the power of
systems thinking has spread, more and more organizations
worldwide are putting that power to use. These far-flung
organizations are astonishingly diverse, ranging from
the police department in Singapore to The Boeing Company
in the United States and from universities in Great Britain
to consulting firms in South America. Clearly, the field
speaks to some universal, enduring values and concerns
that organizations of all shapes and sizes resonate with.
Each
member of this widespread community contributes to it in unique
ways. At Pegasus, we try to be "good citizens" by
providing educational and training resources electronically
and in print, conferences and other learning events, and audio
and video recordings that bring you the latest thinking and
insights from the field. Through our conferences, we provide
opportunities for the many diverse members of this special
community to come together. And as technologies and organizational
challenges change, we design ever more innovative ways to
help you put systems thinking to work in your own life.
From
individuals, to organizations, to communitiessystems
thinking comes to life on all three of these levels. The years
ahead will prove very exciting, as this worldwide community
both broadens and deepens, and as people from around the world
come together in new ways to address the most pressing challenges
of our time.
