Michael Goodman, Innovation Associates Organizational Learning; David Peter Stroh, Bridgeway Partners

RegisterRegister for Workshop Pre-01 | Sat/Sun, Oct 31–Nov 1, 9AM to 5PM; $1395

In today’s organizations, the status quo is no longer an option. But making changes without a good sense of the underlying structures or a picture of possible unintended consequences can be a recipe for disaster. Systems thinking offers a powerful approach for facilitating smart and strategic organizational change. In this two-day session, you will learn how to incorporate systems thinking principles and tools to mobilize and focus organizational initiatives. You will also identify where to apply systems thinking for maximum results. And you’ll develop tools for clarifying mental models and competing purposes—key skills for achieving sustainable high performance.

In this workshop you will:

  • Apply systems thinking to a chronic problem in your organization
  • Review common system archetypes and incorporate them into your analysis
  • Identify leverage points for lasting organizational change

Life at the Frontier: Leadership through Courageous Conversation – #Pre02
David Whyte, Many Rivers Company

RegisterRegister for Workshop Pre-02 | Sunday, Nov 1, 9AM to 5PM; $895

Many of our inherited ideas about leadership do not survive the everyday reality of a changing, multicultural world where customers, colleagues, and direct reports all wish to be seen as individuals with lives, perspectives, and contributions of their own. To be effective in this new context, every person and organization needs a frontier where real conversation is possible. This creative edge is difficult to sustain, but an absolute necessity, both for keeping our organizations strong and for sustaining a vital personal life amid the continual demands. What does effective leadership mean in terms of setting the stage for courageous conversation? How can we stay relevant without always having the last word? How can we provide a strong sense of leadership without coercion or manipulation?

In this workshop, you will:

  • Create a more imaginative sense of what it means to occupy a leadership role
  • Look at how you can lead beyond the frontier by understanding the essential elements of real conversation
  • Take away five key questions for negotiating the next practical step in your work and personal life, plus a deeper understanding of how to thrive over the long term in a difficult, complex, and changing world
